RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITIES
The focus of my research and creative activities in the last decade has been on five main areas: differentiation for English language learners, digital age learning, critical race theory and educator professional dispositions.
Differentiation for English Language Learners
The school districts in North County San Diego serve up to 75% English Language Learners and a major focus in our Single Subject teacher education program is to prepare teachers to create universally designed lessons and differentiation supports that provided language acquisition and access to subject area content. Working with colleagues for the OELA Grant, we have engaged in research to document our revised curriculum and our efforts to focus more on supporting English learners. As part of our research we have analyzed teacher candidate lesson plans for equitable pedagogy and the use of common core instruction with long-term English learners. As a result of our efforts we have published 2 articles and presented at multiple conferences.
